So I have been for sometime working on one of my game designs. For the most part it is heavily influenced by the old style turn based/real time strategy game X-Com. I have been working on a few ideas that will take it to the board. Its not an easy task for sure.

There is currently a game out that has been heavily influenced by X-com called "Target Earth". The game looks interesting and they have taken it in a different direction. Its not an exact clone of X-com but it has many of the same ideas. Currently my concern is making sure that I do the same....By that I don't mean copy them, I mean making sure I take it in a different direction so its not a clone of either.

One current Issue I have been working on is the board. I have an idea for having it on a risk board so that it covers the entire globe but I'm wondering about movement and getting the design the way I want it. The game currently is being designed for solo play with multi player option to follow.

My other idea is to create a map of a single Country (Most likely U.S) and possibly have other countries on their own board so that will allow for a larger playing space, but could have the feeling of playing solo with people....If that makes sense.

The time frame is early 60's. I'm hoping to be able to have some event cards that will incorporate some of the global events of the era. The game itself is meant to be played semi-co-op between 3 players with a 4Th player option as the invader (this idea is still up in the air)

Anyways this is a rough image of one of the early tech level interceptor player cards. I have an idea to have multiple fighters possibly from various countries that can be up graded to new techs as the players play through the game.

Long Time

So its been a really long time since I last posted. So much has changed. Time seems to be exceedingly short to get everything I want to done. As things stand I have been working in the VFX industry for quite some time now so I feel keeping this blog as a Portfolio blog is a little redundant.

So that being said I'm going to start focusing on my 2d skillz (or should I say the lack of) and also a hobby of mine, Boardgaming and design. I have already conceived of at least 3 games that I'm in the process of sussing out, I have had some work published for the game OUTPOST, its not my best work but Its a new medium (digital painting) that I'm not overly confident with. Little steps.

Anyhow Perhaps this will get the ball rolling for me to activly blog. Who knows.

Well still been doing what I do and in order for things to not get lost in the past I have bumped my reels back to the top. Nothing new has been added to them due to contractual obligations but there will be stuff on them eventually. I have my own work but long hours have really prevented me from being able to get any of it. So here they are again.

Well out with the old and in with the new right? Well I at least hope so, as always I'm in the middle of many projects, both personally and professionaly. I hope to have something to post in the next little while but I'm still shuffling my schedule around and I have been unable to get onto my personal projects for some time. Perhaps this next quarter will see it done. Beyond the scope of 3D though life is good and I feel like I'm in a good place right now. Hope it keeps up.

Elf Needs Sleep Badly

Its true, Man I'm tired. Got hired on at IC (intelligent creatures) and been pulling some long days and OT. I'm totally stoked to actually have a job and lovin it but man am I tired. I've had 1 day off in the last 2 weeks and the days have all been 12+ hour days.....Holy smokies. Good Times though. I will try to update this blog a bit more often, but as per usual I think I say that every time and look how often it actually happens. Till then CIAO!!!

Wow so not posted for a bit but I have been working hard and steady on a few different things and I actually managed to get one of them done. So that being said here is an image of the model I finished texturing and modeling...I will be moving on to rigging and animating soon (a nice change in pace from the constant use of photoshop and Zbrush)

So I just checked out some of the settings for the blog here and I just found the script adding plug in that lets me link My Vimeo as a little gadget at the top to keep my demo reels from having to be bumped all the time. Cool, I may now reduce my stuff down to one blog instead of two that way all my stuff is staying current. Must check out what else I can do, Hmmm perhaps a spell check.....Oh dear god there is one.

Dominance War

Well I'm just off the Dominance War competition. For those who aren't familiar with it, Its a cross forum competition that deals with modeling for video games. I had an incredible time working on it and I learned a whole smack load of stuff. I used apps that i have never used(and some even heard of) b4. I became pretty fluent in some programs that I had only a little practice with. Anyways I will be going back through the the model to render off something for a new reel, until then though anyone can check it out by going to my work in progress blog Odds and Ends.

Well it has just come to my attention that my animation reel has been striped of its audio, Hmmmm. I guess I should have checked it earlier but I was given no indication of the issue by YouTube, an e-mail would have been nice or something.
So I have no Idea how many views it has recieved from various job applications, only for perspective clients and or employers to find it deathly quite......BAH!!!!! stupid YouTube, oh well guess I will have to do a re-edit and repost with new audio that they don't find any issues with. Should have something back up in a day or two. TIll then keep it real.

Wow its been a while since I last posted but fear not I have not left you. I have been working diligently on my home life, demoreel, and contracts. So what is it I have to say........Within a week.........Holy new demoreel batman. Thats right. Its rendering as I speak, I mean type. I have also been comping it together to finally have it up and running like I said....Within the week. So hold on to your pants. Hahaha..........

Well took the week off from working on Fett to do a test for a company that is looking for some low poly modelers. I was given the outline of the Memphis building the Pink Palace. And from there I had only 500 Tris to build the thing. The texture could only be a 512k texture also, with a bit of refernce this is what I came out with.

Well its been a bit. I have a few demo reels in circulation but not too many, I'm currenty working on upgrading my reel with some new pieces, hopefully they will be finished in a week or two. Then its back to the search.
Of course thats not to say that I'm not always on the lookout, only I hope to have some improved character animation sequences. Anyhow back to work.

Wow its been along while since my last post. Hmmm what to say and where to start. Well lets begin with. YAY I'm finally married.. Guess you couold say I'm part of the grown ups club now. Hehehe.
I havn't been very active with my own stuff outside of work and I jknow I really need to get back on that horse b4 it rides to far into the sunset. I have a character I'm still working on, The Boba Fett from one of the cgsocieties challenges. As the images below suggest its still very much a work in progress. I may have bit off more than I could chew here at work but I was just so incredubly zealous when I first started I wanted to make an impression. we still have some after hours stuff going on but I'm trying to not be so involved that I leave no time for any of my own stuff.

Regardless, I hope to be a touch more frequent with my posts.We shall see.. Also of note my good friend jeong got hired on at Starz a few weeks back, good for him.

Wow its been like a month since I last posted anything, things are going well for me right now, I start an internship this coming monday. I have also been working in Max to get a handle on it. I have a basic walk/run cycle pretty much completed in Max and I have begun one of the Cgtalk modeling competitions. I'm doing Boba Fett, obviously its a star wars challenge, and as those who know me I can't resist star wars. Hopefully I will have something to show to ya soon. Have a good 1.

FANTASTIC.... I have finaly completed my base modeling reel, between this and my animation reel I hope to land some work. Well here's hoping.

And here is my updated Animation Reel, which is also below, I figure might as well keep them together. It will make it easier for prospective employers.

Particle Woe's

Well I spent way too much time trying to get the particles for my anim and model that I could ave spent more time doing something else. Unfortunatley they didn't turn out nearly as expected, I have my modelling reel version below and the little bit of fire on the hands actually isnt too bad, I have to re-render my animation though since the particles do some freaky things, they screw up the shadows, may have to do them as a seperate pass, but they also turn some of the frames into silhouettes, don't know why. I took them out of those particular frames, the frames render fine in turn but now it looks kind of goofy. I think I will do the animation without the particles and just use combustion to comp in the smokeI want and the fire effects. I hope it will look good though and not cheese. Well here are the two most recent versions and the ones I have been talking about.

Castigator Animation Tests

Well the model has been textured and rigged by moi, and as you can see below I have started the animation on it. I think I might have to adjust a few of the control curves as they begin to displace when the model rotates, I think I have them out of thier proper heirarchy so it should be just a small matter to fix. also I have a blocked in pass of the smoke particles, they will obviously become more smoke like the more I refine them, but as a first pass without really touching them at all I think its starting to work.

Hahaha, so it took me well over 30 tries to remember my login for my blog here, guess I should write it down or something, well I have more work to be posted but after a few tries the animation playblast just looked horrible. It looks great on the computer but when you upload it and link it from Youtube then it looks pretty crappy. I will have to find a way to get a better rendered copy of the test to post, I may have to wait till its done b4 I can post it, will have to see.

Things are taking shape

Finally one of my very first models that I actually went back to and re-modelled to get the poly layout done properly is basically finished. All the modelling is mine, the initial UV layout is mine also, I had a friend(Jeongwon Cho) do the texturing and I believe he re did a bunch of the UV layouts. I have to admit though he did an incredible job, I have learned a whole ton for my new model about texturing from him and hopefully it will look half as good as the texture job he did for my tank. I threw in some quick lights for this post but I will improve the lighting for my reel.
Anyhow I will be back to my other model(see Occlussion image below) this comming week, I started re-modelling the arms and I have a quick start to its animation, most of the rig is done, I have the arm rig in just no controls for them, not hrd to add them in as I go though.
Well I'm off to bed have a good 1!!

Had an interview the other day for a large company near where I live, I feel it went well. They made sure that I wasn't attached to any other company and also kept asking wether or not I was interested in the show they were working on. "But of course" was my reply. Also I got a ton of workdone on one of my models last night, should have something to post soon. Also got to figure out how to link between YouTube and this blog so I can put my demo reel up.

Demo a go go

I have been editing my latest demo reel, I tell yea, if there is something that can go wrong in the whole animation thing its during the rendering demo reel compositing time. This has to be my 8th time doing this reel and again there is something wrong.
A few of the frames for some reason have had thier brightness/contrast adjusted without me doing it.
This I hope is the last time I have to do this. An interview is scheduled for tomorrow with a large Animation Company, I hopeI get the job.

Well day one, and this is my first blog. You would think I'm living in the stone age but I just did not have enough time to start yet another new project. Well the reason for starting this blog is more for possible employers than to sit and rant about whatever ( however who knows what future events may bring about.)
